Selena Gomez Not In Tune With Carrie Underwood

November 4, 2008

Selena Gomez doesn’t exactly agree with Carrie Underwood that celebrities should shut their traps when it comes to politics.

“A lot of people do look up to certain celebrities and will follow in their footsteps,” Gomez told me earlier today, adding, “I think you just  have to be aware of what you’re saying.”

Underwood refuses to say who she’s backing for prez. “I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate,” she explains in the new issue of TV Guide.

Gomez countered, “I’m glad that people are getting involved with the election. This election has been the biggest with celebrities.”

Although Gomez can’t vote yet because she’s only 16, she’s thrown herself into this year’s election season, encouraging young people to educate themselves on the issues. Most recently, she helped launch UR Votes Count, a nationwide program that asked teens to cast their votes at polling stations set up in 150 malls in 42 states.

Do you think Selena Gomez is right?  Or should she shut her trap until shes old enough to vote?  Tell Us what you think!

Some Election Day Music

November 4, 2008

If there’s one thing everybody will take away from the election, it’s all the music that was released and inspired by the ’08 Presidential race. Now that it’s come to an end, a couple of acts would like to have one more word. Check out some songs celebrating election night from Nas, Q-Tip and J. Period and Kentucky’s Nappy Roots.

Nappy Roots – Election Day (Ft. Sabrina)

Nas – Election Night (Ft. DJ Green Lantern)

Q-Tip – Q-Tip For President (Ft. J. Period)

T.I. Finds Loophole And Can Now Vote

October 29, 2008

For a convicted felon, T.I. is pretty damn good at reading the fine print of the law — ’cause the rapper found a way to VOTE after all!

T.I. — who pleaded guilty to weapons charges last year — found a loophole in the Georgia law book, which allows a convicted felon the right to vote IF they’re not currently serving probation or a prison sentence.

Because T.I. isn’t expected to be sentenced until next year, dude can still exercise his civic duty.

And before authorities could change their mind, T.I. hit a polling place in Atlanta to lock in his ballot … cause like he says, in America — you can have whatever you like.

Ellen Sounds Off On Sarah Palin, Prop 8

October 22, 2008

Ellen DeGeneres is addressing the issue of same-sex marriage on her show today—specifically California’s Proposition 8, a measure that would eliminate marriage for same-sex couples. And, as expected, she is not pleased with Sarah Palin’s views on the issue.

“Vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin says she’s in favor of a federal ban on gay marriage. [She] basically wants to change the constitution,” DeGeneres says. “So if you’re wondering—I’m sure you are—how I feel about this, I don’t like it. I don’t agree.”

The comedian, who recently married longtime girlfriend Portia de Rossi, explains, “Maybe it’s because I’m gay that I think we should all be equal, but I feel that we’re all equal.”

Eminem Supports Barack Obama

October 21, 2008

Eminem has tossed his hat into the ring of Presidential politics with a full throated endorsement of Democratic Presidential nominee, Senator Barack Obama.

In an interview with Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1, the Detroit rapper cited the current state of the U.S. economy as being one of the biggest reasons he’d be voting for Obama. “I’ll vote Barack,” Em said. “I mean, I know we are going into a recession. Pardon the cliché but we need something to change. I think Barack would be a breath of fresh air, to get in there and actually get what’s left of the Bush administration out the door.”

The rapper, who recently released a freestyle entitled “Relapse”, said he has been at work on a new album of the same name, and Dr. Dre will produce it.

Sarah Palin’s Alias = Tina

October 21, 2008

So get this … we found out when Sarah Palin checked into the Omni Berkshire Hotel in NYC for her “Saturday Night Live” performance, she used an alias — first name, Tina (we’re not mentioning last name — national security!).

And there’s more. The hotel had some specific instructions on what Her Hotness needed, and it appears to be a preemptive strike against another Couric attack.

Palin asked for and got copies of the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, New York Post, Daily News, and USA Today. No Wash Post — of course they’re on Team Obama now.

We also learned how the Governatrix keeps that pageant-ready figure — all she asked for is diet soda, Atkins bars, and skinny white chocolate mochas … but no whip. We’re told Palin made it VERY clear, she’s not into whip.

Our favorite part — her peeps also specify the kind of coffee stirrer she wants — “thin red straw.” She’s a red-stater right down to the thing that stirs her drink.
